The Buffalo Central Terminal will be celebrating Deco-Fest tonight, June 24th. The first of its kind to benefit the restoration of the deco landmark, featuring dance demonstrations, art deco merchandise, displays and a performance from national recording artists, the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. The event is planned to coincide with the 82nd anniversary of the terminal’s grand opening in 1929.
The Cheery Poppin’ Daddies became famous in the late 1990’s thanks to their hit “Zoot Suit Riot” which many believed to be a revival of swing dancing in the late 90’s. There will be three opening acts performing as well including Rochester’s Krypton 88, The Royal Crowns and rock-a-billy sounds from Buffalo’s Blue Ribbon Bastards.
In addition to the three opening acts the festival will feature a retro burlesque performance by Chelsea Green from Pole Play Dance Studio and swing dancing lessons from Chuck Chazz. Retro pin up model Kelly “Kelvis” Welsted will also be in attendance to take pictures and sign autographs. Anyone attending the festival will also have a chance to become a vintage pin up model with the Central Terminal as a backdrop courtesy of Scarlett Noir Photographic.
The festival begins at 5 p.m. for those 18 years and older. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door with all proceeds going to volunteer efforts to stabilize and restore Buffalo Central Terminal. The Buffalo Central Terminal is located in Buffalo’s Historic Polonia District at 495 Paderewski Drive. For more information on the event you can visit www.Deco-Fest.com.
