Do you like to run? And support a good cause at the same time? The Stella B. Foundation is holding their 2nd Annual 5k Race and Family Fun Run on May 15th at The Blue Monk on Elmwood Ave. at 11:30 AM.
The Stella B. Foundation was started three years ago following the death of our daughter. She lost a 3 week battle with a cancerous tumor and a coinciding infection. Our family was left devastated. We struggled, and still struggle with this loss. As a result of our time at Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo we witnessed firsthand the struggles many families experienced while caring for their child during hospital care.
The Stella B. Foundation’s goal is to help offset some of the financial pressures a family may encounter during their time of crisis. We believe no family should have to decide how to divide their time between work and their sick child. While we are not able to provide complete financial support, we hope to help alleviate some of the burden, allowing parents to spend as much time as possible with their child. Every sick child needs their family by their side during their fight. We believe finances should not impede the family’s ability to be there. The Stella B. Foundation is committed to helping make the decision to hold their child’s hand an easy one.
We’re excited to present our upcoming event at The Blue Monk this year. There was a great turnout last year and a lot of fun was had by many. We are looking forward to a bigger and better race this year. And, we are also having a 1 Mile Walk for those not interested in running but who still want to participate. The after party at the Blue Monk will feature medals for all placing runners, DJ Joe Serious, food, beer and soda along with many great door prizes from the likes of New Era, New Balance, Gates Circle Liquors, PF Flyers, the BAC, Lexington Co-op, Rolly Pollies and more.
In the last two years The Stella B. Foundation has helped a number of local families with rent or mortgage, utility bills, money for groceries and travel arrangements for an out-of-town specialist among other things. We’ve seen the impact that our assistance has had on a number of the families. And this impact is what keeps us going.
This race will be a great opportunity to get out and enjoy a spring run through the Elmwood Village, visit our amazing host, The Blue Monk, and support a great local cause.
Please visit www.stellabfoundation.org to check out the race course, register for this event and see what we have been up to. Registration for the 5K is $25 and $20 for the 1 Mile Walk. All entries will receive a t-shirt and access to the after party.
