The Theatre of Youth will be bringing a band of pirates to Allentown to celebrate the opening of “How I Became A Pirate” on Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m. The play will also be shown during matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through May 22.
There will be a special brunch held at the Quaker Bonnet Eatery on Sunday, May 15 for families to meet the cast of the show. The brunch will feature a pirate-themed menu of Pirate Pancakes, Scallywag Scramble, Plank Potatoes, Shipshape Salad, Sandy-wich, Grog (green orange juice), Pirate Poison (blue milk) and Sea Sludge (coffee). Parents and their children are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt and other activities with the cast. There will also be prizes and the chance to get autographs from the cast of How I Became a Pirate.
How I Became a Pirate is a musical tale that tells the story of Jeremy Jacobs, a young boy who has a gift for digging. Captain Braid Beard recruits Jeremy to help him with burying treasure. At first, Jeremy loves living the life of a pirate. However, he later learns that it’s the little things in life that should be truly treasured.
To reserve a place at the brunch and tickets to the opening show, call the Theatre of Youth box office at 716-884-4400. Registration is limited so places must be reserved today. The cost of a family four package, which includes brunch and tickets to the May 15 show is available at the discounted price of $120. Tickets for one person for the show and brunch are $33. Tickets for the brunch only are $15 per person. Organizers ask that all children be accompanied by an adult to attend the brunch and show.
