Tonight, Queen City Gallery will host the opening reception for local artist Patrick Willett’s latest show “Patrick Willett, Recent Work”. This exhibition features a selection of Willett’s work mainly from the last two years. Willett, a self-taught artist, tells us that his “recent works involve an exploration of the boundless energy of our
natural environment as well as the decay and transience of our
existence.”
These recent works involve an exploration of the boundless energy of our natural environment as well as the decay and transience of our existence. Many of Willett’s latest paintings evoke the natural energy that surrounds us all as well as the decay and never ceasing reclaiming process where city meets nature.
“Creating art is very therapeutic for me;” says Willett. “My work involves the healing and renewing aspects of nature as well as the awareness of place that we all share. I believe we are molded by our surroundings to a great degree, which makes the act of landscape painting a somewhat autobiographical effort. I am especially fascinated with the reclaiming by nature of the materials that we choose to build with and the integral energy of our natural world.”
These recent works are largely executed in watercolor with ink on paper.
