Come experience the highlights of the Give 4 Greatness campaign at Fiesta 4 the Arts on Thursday, May 5 at the Albright Knox Art Gallery – an evening festival to support many of Buffalo’s cultural institutions that lost funding in this year’s County budget cuts.
The Give 4 Greatness campaign has been going on for two months now – since March 8. If you haven’t supported the cause, this is your chance to experience the last day to participate in the campaign. Give 4 Greatness originally teamed up with M&T Bank and a host of other partners to attempt to raise $1 million to benefit cultural institutions that lost funding in this year’s County budget.
According to Buffalo Arts Studio, “We think that our cultural institutions are so valuable to the community that they deserve more than mere subsistence. They deserve to thrive. Where would we be without our vibrant theater community and dance companies? Without the dozens of small and medium-sized galleries that offer audiences access to art they can see nowhere else? Without the educational institutions that develop the next generation of audiences and artists that will sustain Western New York’s cultural riches in the decades to come?”
There will be some great local bands performing like pop-rockers… bands such as The Albrights, Unit III, alternative reggae band the Rockaz, and jazz rockers Midnight Sun Club. Witness dance performances by contemporary dancers at Leherer Dance, Habit Dance, Nimbus dance, and the ballet dancers of Configuration Dance Theatre. The Alt Theater’s Amy Taravella and Anne Burnidge Dance will also make appearances alongside many of our city’s favorite actors, musicians, poets, and artists.
You can look forward to plenty of fun activities like raffles, a Chinese Auction, music and dancing – it will all be part of the event.
Later, the party will continue into the night at neighborhood venues like Cole’s Restaurant on Elmwood and Amherst Street’s Sportsmen’s Tavern featuring Gretchen Schulz & the Morvels.
The Fiesta runs from 6:30-10:00 PM at the art gallery with a minimum donation of $5. A cash bar will be on hand.
