The Spring Campus Crash – 2nd Year is 2X the fun!

Music lovers are you looking for a fun way to end the school year? Are you looking to experience different genres of music from rock to metal, pop, electronic, indie and punk? Want to get up close and personal with some of Buffalo’s local talents? Why not rock your head back and forth to some LOUD music on the Buffalo State College campus?

Well look no further than Elmwood Avenue and get ready to experience some great talents right here in Buffalo. WBNY 91.3 FM and Back Phrom the Dead Records present The Spring Campus Crash 2 event.

“This is a great way to have a good time and find out about some new bands in the area you might like! Similar to the Music is Art festival (which we are big fans of),” Greg Burt, Music Director/Local Music Director at WBNY said.

Last year they weren’t sure how the first show would turn out and didn’t do much advertising. However, a lot of students and fans came out and enjoyed the show. It turned out to be such a hit that WBNY and Back Phrom the Dead Records are bringing more live music back to Buffalo State College for a second go-around.

“The bands had a great time, and a lot of them are returning for the Spring Campus Crash events that we have planned as a follow-up to the success of the previous one,” Burt said.

WBNY and Back Phrom the Dead Records (local Buffalo, NY independent label) met up last fall to discuss “the things they would like to see happen and get done.” What it would take to run a free outdoor concert on campus… they came up with “Campus Crash.” Incite A Riot (local Buffalo booking/promotion company) was later pulled on board for the first Campus Crash that happen last fall.

“After talking to Events Management on-campus we were able to borrow two stages and thought it’d be awesome to run bands back-to-back for a full day of non-stop music,” Burt said.

He said that with everyone’s connection to local music in the area, they had no trouble filling up the stages and rocking out. It’s a good time for everyone, and they really enjoy putting it on and getting the word out about some of the awesome talent around here.

For the spring, they were interested in getting even more bands on the bill, so they could get two dates and split them up to bring even more music to campus, which they were successful at doing. Today they have two dates for the Spring Campus Crash Event – April 29th and May 6th, (both Fridays) 4-11pm at Buffalo State College Quad.

“Students can expect a lot of noise coming out of the Quad, with some really cool bands playing all day,” Burt said.

So, thank you for reading. You may also have seen his freelance byline in Artvoice, where he writes under the name his daddy gave him [Ed: Send me a check, and I might reveal what that is]. When he's not writing, RaChaCha is an urban planner, a rehabber of houses, and a community builder. He co-founded the Buffalo Mass Mob, and would love to see you at the next one. He represents Buffalo Young Preservationists on the Trico roundtable. If you try to demolish a historic building, he might have something to say about that. He is a proud AmeriCorps alum.

Things you may not know about RaChaCha (unless you read this before): "Ra Cha Cha" is a nickname of his hometown. (Didn't you know that? Do you live under a rock?) He's a political junkie (he once worked for the president of the Monroe County Legislature), but we don't really let him write about politics on here. He helped create a major greenway in the Genesee Valley, and worked on early planning for the Canalway Trail. He hopes you enjoy biking and hiking on those because that's what he put in all that work for. He was a ringleader of the legendary "Chill the Fill" campaign to save Rochester's old downtown subway tunnel. In fact, he comes from a long line of troublemakers. An ancestor fought at Bunker Hill, and a relative led the Bear Flag Revolt in California. We advise you to remember this before messing with him in the comments. He worked on planning the Rochester ARTWalk, and thinks Buffalo should have one of those, too (write your congressman).
