A celebration is being held tonight at DBGB’s (formerly Staple’s on Allen) in honor of the release of Chasing Static‘s first full-length album. After a year of studio recording, with the help of friend Nate Boorman, the album ‘One Corporate Drive’ is complete, showcasing the Buffalo-based band’s catchy pop-punk sound.
Sitting down with the band during a practice, I would have never guessed they’ve only been together for a little less than two years. The foursome of Matt Manera, Rick Vallone, Aaron M, and Steve Rausche have an undeniable chemistry while performing, as well as off the stage. Despite their abbreviated history, Chasing Static has drastically changed their style from a 90’s grunge feel (something ‘daringly close to Creed’) by upping their tempo and taking from musical influences across the spectrum. Their sound now is something akin to that of Jimmy Eat World.
In true Buffalo fashion, ‘One Corporate Drive’ is a do-it-yourself effort from start to finish. The majority of the album was recorded in a home studio and industrial spaces, and all of the funding for the album was raised by the band themselves. Through the help of a website called kickstarter.com, and the generous donations of friends, family, and fans, the band was able to fully fund the self-release of their freshman album. Each person who donated is individually thanked on the album itself.
Chasing Static aims to make their album release more of a party than a performance, bringing in local DJs Arehouse, Medison, and BZXP, and Lethal Weapon. Saturday night will be a booze-fueled good time, complete with a half-off discount on ‘One Corporate Drive’ for this showing only. Chasing Static takes the stage at midnight, so come out and support the hard work of a talented local band.
