A Gathering of Waterfront Enthusiasts

Come join fellow Buffalo waterfront enthusiasts at the Harbour Club at HSBC Arena on Tuesday March 29th (5:30pm) to hear about the short term (and some long term) plans for the Inner Harbor, Outer Harbor, Buffalo River, etc. At the same time, the gathering will set the final stage – a kick off if you will – for the ECHDC to commence many of the ideas that have already been proposed. While plans move forward to implement a number of public suggestions, the ECHDC and Project for Public Spaces (PPS) have decided to wrap up this dynamic final segment of the public process.

If you’re wondering why it would be so important to attend such a gathering, it is primarily to offer one last chance to be a part of the process. Already 90 volunteers and 7 public committees have spent a vast amount of time making sure that significant progress is made for the summer of 2011. Those volunteers proved to be an invaluable asset, resulting in even more obtainable short term goals. The point is, while the heavier lifts get underway, there is still time to contribute to The Power of Ten.

What is The Power of Ten as prescribed by PPS for the waterfront? There should be ten destinations along the waterfront, with ten amenities within those destinations. How does that apply to, say, the Inner Harbor? Well, if the Inner Harbor is one of those overall destinations, then there must be at least ten amenities to make it successful. Already underway is a bistro and cafe. There is also a second eatery planned. Then there’s the extension bike/jogging trail. Plus kayak/bike rentals along with additional boating amenities, combined with the Spirit of Buffalo schooner and a slew of ongoing events… these advancements are all well and good, but there’s always room for more. Is volleyball important to you? Or busking stations? Public art? Maybe in your travels you’ve seen waterfront amenities that you feel would enhance the Outer Harbor, the Buffalo River, the Inner Harbor, etc… there is still time to contribute your thoughts and ideas!

Please attend this final gathering of waterfront enthusiasts…
