While the economy is tough, some positive things are happening:
Island Oasis Coming To Buffalo – Island Oasis a private company that produces products for fruit drinks utilized by McDonald’s, Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Applebee’s will be leasing 172,000 square feet in a vacant manufacturing building on Niagara Street in Buffalo. Oasis will be hiring 30 employees initially, which could grow to 90 employees.
As for why they decided to come Buffalo, Oasis CEO Michael Herbert stated in Business First: “Our production environment process is fairly sophisticated and requires specific experience that we knew would be available in Buffalo. The Buffalo employment market includes a very established manufacturing workforce and we are looking forward to tapping into the region’s unique talent pool.”
2,700 Jobs Added In The Past Year – The current recession has resulted in the loss of many jobs. The positive news is that from November 2009 to November 2010, Erie & Niagara Counties added 2,700 jobs, according to a Business First analysis of federal employment data. Erie/Niagara ranked 32nd out of 100 labor markets as far as job growth.
Geico Adding 300 Jobs – Geico insurance currently employs 1,900 people in Amherst, announced that it plans to hire 300 additional people over the next four to six months.
Buffalo Rising
