On February 3, Lohio and Donora will be performing for Buffalo’s indie rock and folk fans at 136 Lofts on North Division Street. Tickets will cost a mere $12 at the door for the opening performance of the tour to promote Lohio’s new Family Tree EP.
For those unfamiliar with Lohio, they are a Pittsburgh-based band comprised of Greg Dutton, Liz Adams, Erik Cirelli, and Dave Bubbenheim. The group’s music stems from influences such as Sufjan Stevens, Neil Young, the Flaming Lips, and Arcade Fire.
The five tracks on the Family Tree album have been described as “no mere beach music,” with complex lyrics and harmonies and a wide range of emotion and tone. The band spent a great deal of time together recording this album at sound engineer Jake Hanner’s farmhouse studio in Pennsylvania. It was there that they shared their meals and their music together, becoming a family during the recording process, which is what the Family Tree album is all about. The songs are a testament to life and family.

Donora, like Lohio, is a Pittsburgh-based band that falls into the indie and pop-rock genres. This trio is comprised of Jake Hanner on drums and vocals, Casey Hanner on guitar and vocals, and Jake Churton on bass. They thrive in producing joyful music with catchy melodies.
Donora has been playing locally for the past three years and has released their own self-titled album as well. Their music parallels that of Death Cab for Cutie, Radiohead and the Throwing Muses. Siblings Casey and Jake Hanner, whose father was a country musician, grew up with a recording studio in the basement and began learning at an early age. Their bassist, Churton, has been credited for playing the bass as if it were the lead guitar, adding a whole different dynamic to the music.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $10 presale and $12 at the door. For more information, visit www.inciteariot.org.
