MNM Presents has pulled together a strong line-up for 2011, kicking off the year by bringing world renowned electronic music producer and performer Brendan Angelides, better known as Eskmo.
The San Francisco based talent is performing at Soundlab on Saturday, January 22nd, to promote his latest album “ESKMO.” Fellow Ninja Tune artist and film composer Amon Tobin has said of Angelides’ music that, “[It’s] some of the best production I’ve heard in recent times.”
Angelides just recently signed with Ninja Tunes, and this critically-acclaimed album is the first project he has released with the label. In addition to this newest partnership, he continues to run his own digital label Ancestor. The release of singles “Hypercolor” and “Angus Dei” on Ancestor in 2009 were met with positive reviews from numerous websites and blogs, with “Hypercolor” jumping to number ten on websites such as Beatport, Additech, and Digital Tunes.
“Some of the best production I’ve heard in recent times” - AMON TOBIN
On this latest album, Angelides has moved away from making more formulaic ‘dance club’ music, and has returned to a more uninhibited creative process. The album was written over a six-month stretch, “in the middle of a whole bunch of personal relationship-type stuff, a lot of deep life-experience type stuff happening that helped the music just bleed out of me.” As a result, the album has a mix of the trademark Eskmo sound (genre-less breed of glitch, dubstep, and funk), with vocals and lyrics that add a personal dimension to the music.
