College Street Gallery is pleased to announce that it will host its Second Annual Kids Art Show on January 29th. The show invites children of all ages to drop off 1-3 pieces of 8.5 x 11 inch sized work at the gallery, at least one of which will be used for the exhibit. (More pieces may be used depending on the number of kids contributing.) The drop-off begins on Wednesday, January 26th and runs through Friday, January 28th ; there is a $10.00 fee to cover the cost of the event. The show will take place on January 29th from 2PM-4PM; the reception will have refreshments and is open to the public.
Founded in 1997 by freelance photographer Michael Mulley, College Street Gallery features work by established local artists–previous exhibitors have included Frederick Seaton, Peter Fowler, Mary Belgey, and Carrieanne Hendrickson, among others–as well as many first-time exhibitors. This openness to artists of all levels makes College Street Gallery a unique space for artists, and perhaps has contributed to the gallery’s longevity, says Mulley. Impressively, College Street Gallery is one of the longest running for profit galleries in Buffalo that is only a gallery, not, Mulley points out, a combined gallery-gift shop, concert venue, or bar, like many other artistic spaces have become. In keeping with College Space Gallery’s commitment to housing and displaying a wide range of artistic works, in November 2008, the gallery became home to the College Street Gallery Co-Op, which features 15-20 artists each month displaying work in all mediums, and opens each First Friday in Allentown.
College Street Gallery also houses a permanent collection of Architectural Photography taken by Mulley that represents the entire city, resulting in photographs ranging from City Hall to Freddie’s Doughnuts. Photography services are always available, as is custom framing. Mulley is also the founder of the Queen City Gallery located in the historic Market Arcade, located at 617 Main Street in Buffalo.
College Street Gallery is located at 224 Allen Street in Buffalo. More information on the gallery and Kids Art Show can be found here, by calling 716.856-2839, or by emailing collegestreetgallery@yahoo.com.
