If all goes according to plan, Hertel Avenue will have a new little sandwich shop on its hands as soon as this morning. Proprietor Dave Howard’s breakfast and lunch concept is to keep it simple by sticking to the basics – selling a number of wraps, soups and salads. At the same time, he has a couple of culinary surprises that he’s planning on unleashing, such as the ‘buckeye chicken wrap’ (chicken fingers, onion rings, barbecue sauce and ranch dressing), and the ‘Fish all the way’ (fish fry, French fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauces). There are traditional healthy options as well.
By the sounds of it, Dave is a happy man when he’s resizing larger meals into wrap-sized easy-to-eat portions. “These are creations that I have learned along the way from other people,” he told me. “Though I put different spins on each one to make sure that they’re perfect. You know how most restaurants serve chicken wings? Well, I’m going to serve the whole wings… all three pieces in traditional Buffalo wing sauce or ‘Dave’s own sauce’. We’re going to open earlier that just about anyone else (6am) on the street so that people can stop by and pick up their breakfasts before heading to work. We’ll use real eggs and fresh ingredients instead of the packaged stuff – stop in and surf the WiFi while we prepare a quick, filling wrap for you.”
