The Buffalo Arts Studio, located in the TriMain Center, will be hosting a full-blown day of art exhibition on Saturday, November 20 with their Open Studio Event.
The event will run from 3-10 p.m. and will feature the work of 38 local artists. Media will vary from painting, to sculpture, mixed media, printmaking, photography, ceramics, jewelry and textiles. Participants will have the opportunity to explore each of the artists’ spaces at their leisure.
“We want to encourage people to wander through the studios at their own pace,” said Cori Wolff, Buffalo Arts Studio Curator. “This will allow visitors to have a dialogue with the artists about their methods, spend time admiring their favorite works and, hopefully, purchase some art,” Wolff said.
Each of the artists will be working in their own space during the event, welcoming visitors to not only see their art, but also have the chance to discuss it with them. “Though most of the studios are open to the public during our normal hours of operation as well as exhibition openings and events, many of our artists hold full-time jobs and are therefore not around during the day,” said Wolff. With the open studio format, visitors can see the artists at work, ask questions and have a better understanding of the source of the art they are viewing or purchasing.
The artists who are working in their studios throughout the course of the day will also offer demonstrations in a variety of different forms, including painting, casting, stone-etching, wood-carving, printmaking, pyrography and ceramics. The Buffalo Arts Studio’s own resident performance artist will also be screening an interactive video in his space.
“Our main goals are to showcase the extraordinary talent of our local artists, educate the public about artistic processes and create sales,” said Wolff. “It also serves as a great opportunity for us to promote our exhibition, education and Jump Start scholarship programs.”
There will be a large variety of art for sale at this event, both large and small. With the holidays coming up, visitors will also be able to find more affordable pieces and prints for gifts. A variety of snacks and beverages will also be available. Guests with children are encouraged to bring them earlier in the day to have the chance to witness some of the art-making demonstrations.
The Buffalo Arts Studio is located at 2495 Main Street, Suite 500. For more information about the event, call 716-833-4450 or email gallery@buffaloartsstudio.org. To learn more about the studio itself, visit their website.
