With the announcement of John B. Simpson’s resignation as president of the University at Buffalo, there has been concern for what it means for the progress of UB 2020. Simpson declared that, “UB 2020 does not have an expiration date” which is evidenced in the completion of the “new” Child Care Center on UB’s south campus. It is part of “Phase II” of south campus improvements under the UB 2020 umbrella.
Formally known as Butler Annex, the Child Care Center has been transformed from two ‘temporary’ structures and eyesores to a permanent facility with vast aesthetic and functional improvements.
The $4.3 million project included a new façade, entry improvements, window replacements, roofs, and a mechanical systems upgrade. The goal of the make-over was to increase the ease of accessibility between both buildings as well as increase overall efficiency. The project was designed by Kideney Architects.
UB has been offering child care services since 1985 on the south campus, with an additional facility added to the north campus in 1998. With these renovations the Child Care facilities have tripled their available spots for children.
