It’s hard to believe that Allentown has been without a vintage clothing store until this point. It took the retro visions of Jessie Dodge (photo) and Mary Parker to bring a business called ‘Just’ to the bohemian district. To walk into the boutique is to walk into a world of trippy colorful dresses and skirts, boots and sunglasses, belts and shirts. The two owners should be commended for not only stocking one-of-a-kind treasures for the ladies, but also for including some great shirts, ties, belts and hats for the guys. Don’t think that this is just a hodgepodge of throwaways, rather it is a thoughtful collection of unique hand-me-downs that have stood the test of time and are ready for yet another life.
Not only is this business green, since the clothing is all recycled, the owners also give partial proceeds to charities such as the City Mission, animal shelters and the Nature Conservancy. More than anything else, a visit to ‘Just’ is just plain fun. The clothing ranges from everyday ensembles to funky party favorites. I picked up a cool belt buckle (cheap!) for myself while a fellow shopper snagged the bright yellow vintage raincoat displayed in the front window. It’s great to see vintage in Allentown once more, along with the various other fashion destinations that dot Allen Street.
