After highlighting Anatomy yesterday, I thought that it would help to showcase an immediate neighbor that has also made a significant contribution on the block. The corner of Elmwood and Anderson never looked bad, it just didn’t have a commercial look and feel to it (see here). Compared to July of ’09, the green house has been transformed into an eye-catching corner housing a design/marketing firm called Black Dog Strategy and Brand, while also acting as a marketing front for Inlight Art Glass. The interior office vestibule is actually quite impressive featuring sophisticated woodwork and a custom staircase leading to the office upstairs.
When I first saw the addition being built, I wasn’t quite sure that I was going to like the final product. Then came the iron railings and plantings, the exterior lighting and the inset wood framing on the windows. Along with the bright color choices, the final touches give the building a warm, welcoming appearance, especially in the evening. The fact that it is flush with the Anatomy building is also a nice feature. It would be nice to see a few more residential-looking houses on Elmwood transformed into commercial spaces – not necessarily with this drastic style of makeover, but it’s always good to see more storefronts added to give retailers and shoppers a concentration of shop options to choose from.
