Shea’s Performing Arts Center is welcoming all literacy advocates to join them for a “novel” event on Thursday, November 4.
The “Cocktails in Character” fundraiser, presented by M&T Bank, will bring together Buffalo’s book lovers to help support Literacy Volunteers in Buffalo & Erie County. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. and run until 8 p.m.
Several literary figures will be making an appearance at the theater. Amongst them will be Scarlett O’Hara, the Cat in the Hat, Zorro, Dracula, Clifford the Dog, Long John Silver, Cleopatra, Alice and the Queen of Hearts. Participants are also welcome to come dressed as their favorite book character, though it is not required.
The night will feature food from a dozen local restaurants, as well as beer and wine tasting. There will be a cash bar with literary-themed cocktails. Some of the drinks to choose from include Long John Silver Pirate’s rum and coke, the James Bond 007 martini, the Scarlett O’Hara, The Invisible Man vodka iced tea and Boo Radley’s root beer float with vanilla vodka.
The evening will also include a raffle and silent auction with literary-themed items. There will be a “larger-than-life” storybook photo booth for guests to enjoy. Shea’s will be offering behind-the-scenes tours of the theater as well.
Tickets are priced at $30 presale and $40 at the door. Presale tickets can be ordered by calling 716-876-8991 or visiting the event website. For more information, visit the Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County Facebook page.
