It was just three short weeks ago that we trumpeted the arrival of real Mexican food in Buffalo, provided to lucky downtown workers every day at the corner of Mohawk and Main by Lloyd.
Lloyd is Buffalo’s first and only taco truck,
and for the first few weeks, the Boys of Lloyd worked through the
glitches and hitches of equipment issues, unexpected snaking lines of eager
customers and the heat of this crazy summer. Passionate testimonials from rabid
taco fans popped up all over their Facebook page and elsewhere. The
television stations taped us as we happily lined up, waiting for a chance to shout out our orders for saucy braised beef
tacos served with crisp slices of cabbage, cheese and fresh-squeezed
lime, or pork, shredded and topped with tangy tomatillo sauce. Served in
warm corn tortillas (doubled-up, just like they oughta be) they made
waiting outside in the sweltering heat for a cheap, fast lunch a price well worth paying (again and again).
Lloyd had just begin to hit their stride, and visions of a fleet of taco
trucks visiting office parks and a corner near you were popping up in
the minds of all who thought that Buffalo’s extreme deficit of real Mexican
food was finally drawing to a close.
And then the engine blew.
It could happen to anyone. You can’t just find a taco truck anywhere,
you have to ship it in with the only guarantee of quality being someone’s best guess. And you can’t just find a taco truck engine
anywhere, either. The young entrepreneurs behind Lloyd have poured their
heart, soul and savings into the Lloyd project. So here we are, unabashedly asking you to
We, the taco lovers of WNY, ask that you step forward and endure the hardship of All You
Can Eat Tacos as we try to Save Lloyd. For one night only, a mere $20
will fetch you the aforementioned tacos in an “All You Can Eat”
quantity. Samples of Lloyd’s super secret, not-yet-available churros (with Mexican
chocolate dipping sauce) will be available as well, not to mention fresh grilled and seasoned corn. Plus, your efforts will insure that we Save Lloyd!
I’m sure the Lloyd Boys will rustle up some other fun stuff for the evening, so stay tuned to BR for an
update. In the meantime, call your friends, Facebook share, Re-tweet, RSVP—
Come One, Come All and show the Boys of Lloyd and their killer tacos a little Buffalove!
