The 9th annual National Buffalo Wing Festival is just days away. The perfect end to summer, Buffalo’s wing fest has become the preferred way for over 90,000 attendees to spend their Labor Day weekend. Founder of the festival, Drew Cerza (a.k.a The Wing King), works every year to bring more excitement to the festival, an event that already features over 35 restaurants from the region and across the country.
This year, in addition to the usual fun of the Blue Cheese Bowl, pro and amateur sauce competitions, cover bands and wings, wings, wings, the best competitive eater in the world, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, will be in Buffalo to defeat the three-time chicken wing eating champion, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas (pictured above). Dubbed as the David and Goliath of food battles (Chestnut is over 6′ tall and weighs in at over 200 lbs., where Thomas is a petite 105 lbs.), this battle should attract major national attention to the festival, and Buffalo in general.
With a modest $5 entry free (kids under 8 are free) and affordably priced wings and other edibles, the Ntional Buffalo Wing Festival is a very family friendly event and a nice way to spend the day. Stay tuned to BR for more wing festival coverage as we near Labor Day.
