For the first time, the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Center, located on the Buffalo River, will be offering beginner flat water kayak lessons to the public. The lessons (Monday, August 9th from 6pm-9pm) are being provided by Paths, Peaks and Paddles and are sponsored by The Cooperage – a loft development scheduled to be built next to Father Conway Park. The opportunity incorporates many facets of the old First Ward including a glimpse into the future uses of the waterway as well as a look back in time at the industrial grain elevators, mills and silos.
This is an interesting partnership that has been formed between a longstanding paddle group, a newly founded rowing center and a loft project that many people have been rooting for. The pieces of the puzzle have started to come together for this area, especially with the recent groundbreaking of Festival Park. Interested participants are being asked to pre-register online at www.pathspeakspaddles.com. Paddlers will be meeting at the BSRA Rowing Boathouse at 345 Ohio Street.
