Tonight one of Buffalo’s coolest shows welcomes one of Buffalo’s newest, coolest bands. The Dykes of Hazard Variety Hour, Volume VII welcomes special musical guest, Storyville Players! A ticket to tonight’s performance will not only get you stand up and sketch comedy, but you will also enjoy live music. Did I mention this all takes place in Buffalo’s coolest venue, the Ninth Ward? In addition, there will be mad A/C cranking. Making all aforementioned statements true in both the figurative and literal world. The all around coolest.
Becks: Are you all originally from Buffalo, and can you introduce the band for us?
Storyville Players: Buffalo has raised four fine gentlemen and one fine lady. Mike Laudico, who previously spent years traveling the world recently returned home to find a band in need of an upright bass player. Brian Pietrus and Sarah Rose once lived in a small cabin together on Easy Street in the Adirondack Mountains. The Mysterious David came from the stars holding a flaming violin above his head. Ian Belknap likes pineapple the most.
B: How long have you guys been playing together, and did you know each other before?
SP: Storyville played their first show at The Vault in December 2009.
B: How would you describe your music?
SP: Booty shakin’ root tootin hum dingin’ jazzy folky boot scootin’ boogieeeeeeeeeee.
B: I’ve been referring to you as the Storyville Players, I’ve also heard you called the Storyville Quartet. What’s the story behind that? (pun intended) Have you made your final decision?
SP: Our numbers fluctuate. We originally started as a quartet. After a few months together we met a man named Jeremy Spindler and became a quintet. Though we recently said bon voyage to our wonderful accordion player (have fun in Brazil!), we added David on violin and the soccer continues.
B: What do you hope people will get out of your show? Or at least, what should they expect?
SP: Booty shakin’ root tootin hum dingin’ jazzy folky boot scootin’ boogieeeeeeeeees. Or: tambourines.
B: What would you say to the haters?
SP: Where’s the beef?
