Many of you will recall last week when Tod Kniazuk, the Executive Director of of Music is Art appealed to BR readers for their votes in an online contest held by JP Morgan Chase Bank called Chase Community Giving. In the end, the contest organizers would allot $5 million in prizes, giving $20,000 to each of the non-profits to finish in the top 200. The top 200 was based strictly on public vote.
When voting closed at 11:50 p.m. July 12th, Music is Art had finished in the138th position, with a total of 1,619 votes. They were the only Western New York candidate in the top 200.
“It was a tight race, right down to the final hours,” Kniazuk said, “but once again the Buffalo community and our friends and fans from all over came through for us. We’re thrilled and humbled by the support they showed for our mission and programming.”
Music is Art, founded in 2003, has as its mission to help explore and reshape music’s cultural, educational, and social impact on our community.
It does this through seven programs including an instrument drive, student battle of the bands, The Big Easy in Buffalo music education & concert series, and the absolutely free annual Music is Art Festival, which will be held September 11th at the Albright Knox Art Gallery.
