Not since February of ’08 (see post with rendering) had I heard anything about partial Coast Guard land being designated for public park space – that is until this weekend. It looks like bids went out a month ago to start the process of consolidation Coast Guard facilities to a designated part of the property away from the Erie Basin Marina side (to the break wall side of the property).
Work could begin as early as this summer. That means that the public will have access to a prime waterfront parcel of land, which until now had only been designated as Federal access.
The last I had heard was that plans had been delayed due to further Outer Harbor interest by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation. Whether this will be part of a joint initiative is unclear – what is clear is that bids have gone out and the project is moving forward.
