There are two film festivals currently slated for summer 2010 that will be particularly appealing to foodies, so we thought we’d post them here in the Dining section. The first is about enjoying great food placed before you while watching a film, the second is about better understanding where your food comes from.
Bacchus, one of Buffalo’s best eateries may be best known for serving up delicious food and wine, but during the summer it is the coolest place in town to catch a flick. Every Wednesday from June through September, the back patio is transformed into an intimate outdoor screening room. This summer’s schedule has been posted, and as you can see there are quite a few films to choose from. This season may be a little light on the art films, but Bacchus has been hosting this outdoor summer film fest for many years, so we’re guessing they’ve figured out what type of films their audience appreciates. The foodie aspect of the series has less to do with the films shown and more to do with the fact that film-goers are able to order from Chef Brian Mietus’ concise and well-executed dinner menu and Wine Spectator-awarded wine list al fresco. Sounds good to us.

The second food-related film series takes a more serious tone. In the last few years, food documentaries have become increasingly popular, and it looks like The Lexington Co-op and Edible Buffalo magazine have teamed up to offer Buffalo foodies an opportunity to view some of the best of these films at Hallwalls over the course of the summer. Tickets are $8 general admission, or $6 for Co-op members, Edible magazine subscribers and seniors. Tickets are available for purchase at the Co-op.
