Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That
Type is a theatrical adaptation of a children’s book by Doreen
Cronin (illustrated by Betsy Lewin) staged by the Theatre of Youth at
the Allendale Theatre. It is a quirky comedic musical about farm animals
who discover a typewriter tucked away in a box in their barn. The
typewriter, along with a box full of revolutionary writing (“Animal Farm” and
“Das Kapital” among them), spurs the animals into action. They write
missives to the farmer, demanding better conditions. There are enough
adult-oriented references to keep the older folks in the audience
engaged (think Sesame Street’s Monsterpiece Theatre) while still being a funny,
eccentric musical about animals for kids. TOY bills the show as, “A
musical barnyard mutiny or your littlest critters!“
Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type opened last weekend at TOY. It continues until June 6th
(although please note that there are no performances on Memorial Day
Weekend). It is recommended for children ages 4 and up.
