Do you know that you can walk to RiverFest from the Metro Rail? The event takes place right along the Buffalo River. That weekend you participate in a number of fun activities, including a hike, a regatta, softball, or even a ride on the oldest operating fireboat in the world. The festival is much different than any city festival that you might be familiar with. It’s very laid back. There are plenty of parklands to walk around, including the area on the river that will one day be home to Festival Park. There’s even a canoe and kayak launch.
We’re planning on biking down and hanging at the beer/live music tent after we watch the regatta. This year, RiverFest planners are hoping to attract an even larger crowd and they would love to see visitors come from all over the region to explore a part of the city that might be unfamiliar to them. The Valley Community Association (VCA) does an excellent job making sure that this family event goes off without a hitch. If you’ve never been to this festival, you should consider heading to Father Conway Park on June 18th and 19th. All of the proceeds raised that weekend go toward improving old First Ward amenities.
