Allentown Hardware will once again do what it is known for doing best – bringing in out of town music talents to add to Buffalo’s already rich mix. From the days back at the Calumet with a buzz of different acts coming from as far away as Cuba, to the more intimate Trinidadian Brownman shows at Hardware, Allentown will, Friday night, come alive with the sweet sounds of Torontonian Laura Hubert.
Mark Goldman fell in love with Laura Hubert two years ago in Toronto. “She’s fabulous”, he says, “at times channeling Edith Piaf at other times Marlene Dietrich and Liza Minnelli. Not since we had Diana Krall at the Calumet 15 years ago have I been as intrigued by a singer.” Her band, a fabulous quartet led by Toronto piano jazz legend Peter Niles, sets the tone for what will be a wonderful, completely exciting music of jazz vocals.
Hardware, 245 Allen Street, Friday May 7th at 10pm.
