Post and photos by Joe Cascio:
Monday night Pearl Jam stormed into HSBC Arena in support of their most recent release “Severed Hand”. The crowd was filled with young and old as it was easy to see who had followed the guys from Seattle from the onset back in 1991 and those who have a newfound appreciation for some hard driving rock and roll. The 26 song set included the new, the old and a cover by Neil Young called “F___kin Up”.
Eddie came out looking much more like Eddie Vedder, longer hair and a beard, than the clean shaven, short haired Eddie who showed up back in 2003 so I had a real good feeling about the show that was about to unfold.
Outstanding versions of “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”, “Rearviewmirror”, “Alive” and one of my all time favorite songs “Not for You” rocked the arena and you could see the raised arms of appreciation. The band let the crowd lead the way on “Better Man” and it was a blast with the capacity crowd belting it out strong. I don’t really know the new album, only heard it once (thanks John) but it fits in very nicely with the balance of what has been created in the past. Thanks for a great night and enjoy the pics.
This is a quick very cool note from www.SetList.fm: “Note: Pearl Jam started with Unthought Known for the first time ever, having now played 10 shows in a row with different openers. Fatal was played for the first time since September 9, 2006, and only for the fourth time ever. No Way was played for the eighth time ever. Light Years was dedicated to Tim Russert’s son Luke.”
