Days Park Fight Club

One of the reasons that I find Allentown so interesting is that there are little hideaways around each corner where people do the most unexpected things in the most unexpected place. I’m not talking about the topless lady who dresses up in animal suits and performs skits in alleyways to raise money for endangered species (that’s for another day). I am talking about places like the one seen here – martial artist Chad Jakubowski’s raw industrial space that he has outfitted into a corner reminiscent of Fight Cub.

Chad has been teaching people how to defend themselves for years. Whether it’s sparring techniques or power lifting, chances are some of the toughest and most in-shape people around have stopped in to see Chad.  His business is a word-of-mouth enterprise that depends on contacts… all sorts of contacts. I’ve had the opportunity to throw some punches at Chad (back in the day), and I’ve also been on the receiving end as well. Let me tell you that he is a force to be reckoned with. Fortunately for his clients, Chad is a super friendly guy and is only out to make sure that people stay fit and are able to take care of themselves. He trains a wide range of ages, both male and female, with simple jump rope exercises, heavy bag punching and everything in-between.

Much like peaceful Days Park, Chad is a peaceful kinda guy who has certainly added to the character of Allentown. Even though he’ll teach you how to be a lean, mean fighting machine, more importantly he’ll get you amped up to work out on a regular basis. If you’re like me, you need an incentive to go that extra mile – thankfully Chad is just around the corner to help you along the way.

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
