Days after District B Chief Donna Berry was demoted to lieutenant, communities around the city continue to rally in support of her past efforts that helped to make the city a better place to live. As Facebook helps to gather people to her allegiance, there are still others who are organizing a community celebration one week from today at D’Arcy McGee’s Irish Pub. The celebration is intended to be a ‘Thank You’ for her time of service as chief on the force, as well as a message of support (and concern) in response to her stunning reassignment to lieutenant. A message from one celebration organizer, Judi Griggs:
Residents, business owners, law enforcement professionals and all others touched by Berry’s leadership are welcome to the after-work celebration including free food and an open bar (courtesy of Mark Croce). We called Mark Croce, owner of D’Arcy McGee’s, to see if he would consider letting us have a party there. He responded immediately that he’d be honored to host the event.
At least two Facebook pages in support of Berry with more than 500 members sprung up within hours of the announcement of her reassignment. The comments cover a deep cross section of city residents, praising her commitment both on-duty and off-duty to the city she loves.
Those who can’t attend the party to personally thank Berry are invited to send a contribution in her name to Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, PO Box 351, Buffalo, NY14201. Berry has been an active board member for the community gardening program which works with public and private sectors to revitalize neighborhoods and build quality of life through the reuse and beautification of vacant land.
Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo will host an informational table at the party and will gratefully accept donations in Chief Berry’s honor there.
