In just 26 days, the entire City will enjoy one of the most creative, interesting, dynamic – and downright fun – events of the year. The Albright-Knox’s Art Alive is a community-based activity in which schools, colleges, individuals – in fact, any and all loyal art fans – are invited to create living representations of their favorite works of art and compete for cash prizes. Each year, Art Alive attracts dozens of contestants and hundreds of spectators, who all gather to learn about art and enjoy the fun.
Contestants recreate works of art in living tableau using their creativity and ingenuity. The final interpretations are often amazing compilations of people, props, and even music. Contestants range from elementary and high school students to business people, family groups, artists, and Gallery volunteers. Awards, presented by celebrity judges, are based on degree of difficulty, creativity, interpretation of original artwork, quality, and overall impression. Prize categories include: Best Tableau from the Gallery Permanent Collection, People’s Choice Award, Kid’s Choice Award, The Handyman Award for Best Craftsmanship, and The Off the Beaten Path Unusual Entry.
Held on the Gallery’s grounds, this creative and beloved community event celebrates its fourteenth anniversary in 2010. This much-anticipated and family-oriented extravaganza is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2010. The event is free and includes an art activities area where you can create your own masterpiece.
If you want to enter yourself or a group for this year’s Art Alive, there’s still time! The deadline for entries is May 21st. You can enter online at the Albright-Knox’s website.
