Delish, the cooking school, bakery, gourmet goods shop and ice cream parlor, is in its fifth year on Elmwood. Owner Debbie Clark has re-focused her efforts, and shoppers and would-be chefs should expect to find a variety of changes at the colorful storefront. Most recently, Sprinkles, the portion of the business designated for pleasing palates on warm sunny days with cool and sweet ice cream, has morphed into the only place in town where cones and cups of the very popular Lake Effect Ice Cream can be had. Known for its richness and the adaptation of local ingredients into unique flavors, Lake Effect Ice Cream is quickly becoming a regional favorite. During our recent bout of warm weather, the demand for Lake Effect’s local, gourmet ice cream was so intense that people waited outside Delish for the ice cream shipment to arrive.
But ice cream is just the icing on the cake, per se. Beginning tomorrow, Elmwoodians will be able to purchase an affordable and healthy lunch at Delish, Tuesday through Saturday from 11am – 3pm. Upstairs in the demonstration kitchen, Clark and her staff will bring Chop Chop to life on Elmwood by preparing a new fresh and healthy menu every week. “Our goal is to keep it priced right and to provide healthy, fresh food,” Clark tells me. She went around to visit many of her fellow shopkeepers while deciding whether or not to add a Chop Chop-style option to Delish. “Every one of them was concerned about price and healthfulness. I was really surprised by the number of vegetarians!”
Thanks to Clark’s street research, Delish’s customers will now have their choice of an affordable soup, salad, sandwich, pizza, panini, savory tart or signature noodle bowl. In the Chop Chop tradition, each entree offering allows diners to add or remove chicken, tofu, shrimp or beef, providing flexibility based on preference or dietary restrictions. Dine in or take out, this ever-changing quick and simple menu affords Clark the opportunity to highlight the freshest ingredients of the season.
Delish’s lunch offering begins tomorrow, April 15th. A sample menu is listed below; Delish’s website will offer weekly updates in the near future, But you can join Delish on Facebook for regular updates now.
