Linda Steffan is the fifth-generation operator of M. Steffan’s Sons Inc., one of the oldest leather goods stores in the nation. This business, rooted in the art of leathercraft and founded in 1851, just happens to be located here in Buffalo. M. Steffan’s claims that there “probably hasn’t been a shoemaker, shoe store or shiner who hasn’t at one time or another bought from M.
Steffan’s Sons.” In addition to carrying a plethora of supplies for leather work, M. Steffan offers shoe repair.
As part of Demo Days–an ongoing series of arts instruction workshops offered by WNY Book Arts Center–Linda Steffan will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about the basic tools used in working with leather, the types of leathers that are available and which of those is best for book binding. Steffan, passionate about her craft, is a member of Society for Creative Anachronism and teaches leather working workshops at the University for Scouting every year.
Join Linda Steffan at the WNY Book Arts Center on Wednesday, April 28th from 6 – 8pm for Demo Days: Leather Tooling for Books and More. Attendance is free, but registration is required. See WNYBAC’s website for details.
