If you’re like me and you’re always looking for the next great place to enjoy Sunday brunch, you should know that Juniper just added brunch to its repertoire. I was lucky enough to enjoy the restaurant’s initial offering earlier today – I have been waiting ever since they opened to try it out, mainly because the dining areas are perfectly designed for brunch-style eating. Any place that has such dramatic lofted windows with an eastern exposure already has an advantage over the competition.
Then you throw in the culinary skills of Roo Buckley and Kate Elliott and it’s an automatic slam-dunk. We used to be devotees of Roo’s Sunday brunches at Coda, and we’re very disappointed when that routine was cut short. Now it’s the best of both worlds – delicious food in a sunny, warm and social atmosphere. Throw in bottomless mimosas for $10 and Sundays are looking pretty darn good (now how ’bout the Bloody Mary crowd?) I was happy to see Roo’s famous pain perdu (cognac maple with cimato peaches) appear on the menu, and though Juniper is starting off with a streamlined menu, everything else that I saw walk out of the kitchen looked spot on. Roo let us sample some of the chocolate croissants as we sipped our coffee – a treat that will most likely become a signature brunch offering and one that signals that this is more than just a place to grab breakfast.
Meat-lovers will enjoy the farmhouse maple ham omelet while the vegetarian crowd can drool over the mba soy sausage burrito. Oh, and the cheese grits are remarkable. Even the table settings are thoughtful thanks to the Annie Adams-crafted napkin rings and flower vases. Plenty of seating in the dining room, at the bar, or upstairs. Unfortunately Sunday brunch only comes around once a week – thankfully it’s the first day of the week!
*Without the mimosas, brunch costs approximately $10 per person.
