Temptation lurks around every turn in The Relapse (or Virtue Endangered), a sassy comedy by John Vanbrugh, opens today, Friday, January 15th. Directed by ICTC Associate Director Derek Campbell, the stylish Restoration Comedy dating back to 1696 is cleverly updated to the Carnaby Street era of the early 1960’s demonstrating the parallels between the two time periods in which the pursuit of money, sex, social status and excesses of every kind rule the day.
The Relapse (or Virtue Endangered) will continue through Sunday, February 14th, at ICTC’s home, the Andrews Theatre, 625 Main Street, Buffalo, New York.
In The Relapse (or Virtue Endangered), delicious duplicity abounds as a loyal and lovely young wife worries that her husband may succumb to his lingering immoral inclinations, while a penniless ne’er-do-well schemes to make off with his brother’s bride and her generous dowry. A delightful mélange of sophistication and farce, The Relapse (or Virtue Endangered) features a cast of nineteen of Western New York’s most beloved actors.
The Relapse (or Virtue Endangered) stars ICTC Artistic Director Vincent O’Neill as Sir Novelty Fashion, the newly created Lord Foppington; and features Chris Corporandy as Young Fashion; Todd Benzin as Loveless; Aaron Pitre as Worthy; Robert Rutland as Sir Tunbelly Clumsey; Doug Crane as Sir John Friendly/Syringe; Gary Darling as Coupler; Jim Maloy as Bull and Peter Jaskowiak as Lory. Ladies featured in the cast are Diane Curley as Amanda; Leah Russo as Berinthia; Mary Beth Lacki as Miss Hoyden and Beth Donahue and the Nurse. The ensemble includes Tracy Snyder, Amanda McDowall, Lawrence Rowswell, Michael Votta, Adam Rath and Dan Siejak.
