[Update: Haynes has it.]
There will be a special meeting of the Buffalo Common Council at 3PM today, Thursday, January 14th, to appoint an Ellicott District Council Member.
By all accounts, Buffalo State College economics professor Curtis Haynes has moved to the forefront (see Brian Meyers’ Buffalo News story), though just two days ago, the existing council members were vacillating between Haynes and Firefighter Byron McIntyre. Last week’s Democratic Committee vote, on the other hand, had Rev. Darius Pridgen just ahead of McIntyre by a small margin.
Haynes, who owns a rooming house on Whitney – considerably cleaned up since a badly decomposed body was found there under the previous owner in 2004 – also owns and lives in the building that houses Karam’s Deli (Whitney, Chippewa, Georgia intersection). He is said to be the least political of all of the Ellicott seat hopefuls.
And it may not have any bearing on the council’s view of Pridgen, but some Internet flap arose for WNY Media’s, Alan Bedenko, when he created this post, including a billboard of the reverend that was shot by David Torke of fixbuffalo.com. We assure you, this is an unretouched photo.
