With these Bureau of Transportation Statistics in mind, we bring you these two Buffalo News opinion pieces, one by Alan Oberst, whom we would consider a preservationist above all else, and one by Elizabeth Martina, a resident of the Columbus Park neighborhood that would be paved over for a larger Peace Bridge truck plaza.
Though the BTS site doesn’t give numbers for 2009 yet, numbers that may show an even greater downturn due to the economy, there still remains the argument of whether projections that were made will have any bearing on an actual uptick in truck traffic any time in the near future.
And all the while the traffic is being looked at, one must not dismiss the devastation to the community – and most unfortunately, the role of the Public Bridge Authority. No one says it better than Bruce Jackson in this ArtVoice story.
