“Safe Ride Home” Program in Western New York

Sponsored by Fairground Gaming and Raceway, Taxi Ad Central, Entercom Radio and Liberty/Yellow cab of Buffalo, the idea is to prevent alcohol related accidents and fatalaties on New Year’s Eve.

In launching their 35th year of Liberty and Yellow cab of providing free cab rides on New Year’s Eve for customers celebrating at local bars and restaurants, Liberty’s “Safe Ride Home” program provides participating bar and restaurant customers, who are not in a condition to drive, the opportunity for one of its drivers to get them home safely.

In 2008, an estimated 11,733 people died in alcohol-impaired traffic crashes in the United States.* The goal of the “Safe Ride Home” program is to prevent alcohol related accidents and fatalities here in Buffalo and Western New York.
Bill Yuhnke, President of Liberty/Yellow Cab says, “Buffalo Raceway came in with a big check this year, and we couldn’t have done this without them.”  He implores bar and restaurant owners to sign up at the web address below and promises he’ll have a longer, publishable list by New Year’s Eve, but says bars need to sign up now. So, if you know where you’ll be on the night of the 31st, call your favorite watering hole and give them a nudge to register with Liberty.

How it works:
Bar and Restaurant management are given information and a confidential phone number to call Liberty’s Safe Ride Home. The number is only available to owners, managers and those employees designated to make the decision to call Liberty’s Safe Ride Home for customers who want the free ride home.
· Liberty’s Safe Ride Home will only take patrons to a residence.
· Liberty’s Safe Ride Home will secure patron’s keys in an envelope, mark with the location of their car and return the envelope when reaching final destination.
· Liberty’s Safe Ride Home will only respond to calls made by participating bars and restaurants.

Last year, over 200 bars and restaurants participated in the program and Liberty gave over 300 free rides. This year, Liberty is inviting even more bars and restaurants to take part in the program and has introduced a new online function system for easy registration. Liberty’s Safe Ride Home will only respond to calls made by participating bars and restaurants. Bar and Restaurants interested in participating can register online at www.taxiadcentral.com
