Were not sure who made this great video, but it says a lot about the fine job the Olmsted Conservancy has done over the last 5 years to restore the Olmsted Parks as the point of pride they once were.
After a handoff by County Executive Chris Collins, one he first mentioned 2 years ago, the city was left with control of the parks (or will be as of December 31st) and the Olmsted Conservancy has been swinging in the wind, waiting for word that would tell them whether they’d be able to continue to carry out their exemplary duties in the upkeep of the park, as well as their advocacy role.
With plenty of backers, the conservancy should have no problem keeping their role as advocates, but with no guarantee of city funding – at least no dollar amount attached to the maintenance – it’s not clear whether the city will form a partnership with the conservancy, or do its best to wrestle the parks away.
Word came in today that the equipment used by the conservancy would be sold off within the year also. No contract, no equipment; this can’t be good. Support the Parks.
