At the risk of being too advertorial, holiday shoppers who love Buffalo can come downtown from 12-6 today and peruse locally produced handcrafts, books, artwork and more with the Last minute gift buying panic marketplace at the main gallery, 1st floor of the Western New York Book Arts Center 468 Washington St at Mohawk in Downtown Buffalo. For shoppers who love Buffalo and know people who hate Buffalo, the surprisingly popular letterpress greeting card stating “Buffalo Hates you too!” is available in the WNYBAC shop along with such unlikely gifts as the Seth Godin Action Figure and the locally made Calligraphy pen nib earrings, in addition to their regular assortment of bookbinding art papers and supplies.
Local authors and publishers such as Elizabeth Leader, Michael Mulley, Sunnyoutside Press and Buffalo Heritage are available for book signings. Original intaglio prints from University of Buffalo visual studies grad students and alumni Amada Macubia, Amy Greenan and Hyeyoung Shin. Buffalo themed wearable and hangables from Where to Roam and Hero Design make great gifts and handmade Jewelry from Jan Nagle and Theresa Barnack. In addition to the hand printed letterpress offerings of the WNY Book Arts Center shop, local letterpress printer Rene Hoover has delightful holiday cards. Other vendors with prints, origami ornaments, woodworking, and the venerable Crowbiz assortment of wry surrealistic baubles are sure to delight.
This once a year event at the WNY Book Arts Center is a warm spot to have a cup of cocoa or espresso, buy a few last minute gifts and support local vendors. Admission is Free and today’s event runs until 6pm. At 8 pm in the same space is the 5th Big Night event from Just Buffalo Literary Center. What a busy corner that Mohawk and Washington Street!
