Climate Action: Bring a Candle

In
conjunction with the United Nations Climate Treaty Conference in Copenhagen,
Denmark, Buffalonians are asked to be part of the “Candlelight Vigil
for Survival” in Niagara Square on Friday, December 11th, from 5 to 6PM.

As part of a
weekend of climate action midway through the UN Climate Treaty Conference
& coordinated globally by 350.org, all over the world people will gather and together light “Candles
Of Hope” to stand in solidarity with the citizens of the low-lying
nations whose very survival is threatened by the climate crisis.

The message, according to the organizers, is:
The World Wants a Real Deal.

In Buffalo,
the vigil is being convened by the Western NY Climate Action Coalition and
co-sponsored by the local chapter of the Sierra Club and others.  Local elected officials are being
invited to attend. It’s suggested that those attending bring a candle
(protected from the wind) or a solar light, warm clothes and, if possible,
a thermos with a warm beverage.

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
