Just when you thought that The Place Restaurant was done reinventing itself, they’ve gone ahead and added a weekend brunch menu. Not to say that The Place has forsaken all of its old world character – it’s still the same restaurant and bar that we’ve all come to love over the years… just better. Thanks to the current breakfast offerings, I’ve found myself waiting at the front door on Saturdays – peering in through the windows to see if there’s any activity inside. Of course the doors don’t open until 11:30am on Saturdays and noon on Sundays… I guess it’s just been a long time coming.
An added bonus, when eating brunch at The Place, is that they also have their regular lunch menu available if someone at your table is fixated on eating a club sandwich – one of the best clubs in Buffalo. For those who enjoy a hearty, reliable brunch, I suggest the eggs Benedict. Served up with home fries, an orange slice and a complimentary mimosa, you really can’t go wrong, especially if you order the home fries extra crispy. Although the brunch menu is somewhat limited since they also provide you with lunch offerings, one can still find steak and eggs, corned beef hash, macaroni and cheese, French toast, eggs or an omelet. All come with a complimentary glass of champagne or a gigantic mimosa.
I’ve been going to The Place for years, and so has my family. I’ve eaten my fare share of lunches and dinners there. I’ve even spent some time at the bar watching Sabres games and sampling a Tom and Jerry or two. The brunch is just one more feature that makes The Place one of my favorite restaurants around – nothing fancy, just a solid neighborhood pub with good food and a loyal bar crowd.
