The below email was sent to Assemblyman Bill Magee with the hope of killing the $25 fee and trying to get them to save a lot of money by eliminating the front plate. We are also suggesting the change in the front windshield sticker. A sticker that looks like a license plate with bar codes on it. Police cars now have electronic eyeballs in their cars.
These devices read license plates and stickers in seconds. No need for the front plate. While they are at it maybe they can come up with a sticker that sticks.
Dear Bill,
I am sure you have head the uproar about the new fee and new license plates the Governor wants. It seems everybody is against it but nobody has come up with a better idea. Until now. We suggest we go to one plate like 30 other states do. Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Delaware etc. Take the best plate that is presently on your car and put in the rear. Return the other plate to Motor Vehicles. This will save millions of dollars and prevent a fee increase.
Why?
l. Not 1 job will be lost
2. About 30 states have switched to 1 plate
3. Local police are in favor because it will stop people from taking the front plate and placing it on the rear of a unlicensed and uninsured 2nd vehicle. The state has already stopped issuing 2 plates to auto dealers because of this being done.
4. Save approximately $75 to $150 per car when front end collisions occur. (replacing plate, bracket, and labor).
5. Make car dealers and car buffs very happy.
6. To help the environment: every auto that is built is designed with drag coefficients being a major consideration. By placing a flat square foot of material in front of your auto, gas consumption is increased. We figure the average yearly saving per car could be as much as 9.6 gallons without the front plate. Cars are tested for gas consumption without a front plate.
We hope you will carefully consider our proposal to make NY a better place to live. –
