Two Buffalo
Public School District Principals, each of them new fathers, and two soccer
teams in a playoff game. The
wager? A case of diapers. And the delivery of a 130-pack of
Pampers Swaddlers was made to the winning
school’s principal today.
Dr. William
Kresse from City Honors School made good on his bet to Dr. Casey Young from Grover
Cleveland High School, when Grover’s Section VI Class B Boys took City Honors
in a Soccer Championship playoff game. And for the record, Grover didn’t entirely
beat the diapers off of City Honors, and nobody was crying in the 3 to 1
win.
“I was
hoping for a bigger box,” joked Grover Cleveland High School Principal Dr.
Casey Young. “But since we became proud fathers in September the
practical thought was to wager something we could use with our new bundles of
joy: diapers. These will come in handy in the days to come,” he said.
Kresse said
his wife was perplexed “when I walked out of the house this morning with a
box of diapers from our shelf. It was a hard-fought game and if there’s
any team that deserved to win it’s certainly the talented young men from Grover
Cleveland.”
The Grover
team has nearly 20 players from 14 countries on the team according to
International Preparatory School at Grover Principal Kevin Eberle. After
beating City Honors School in the Section VI Class B playoffs, the Grover team
was victorious against Holley in the Sectional Regional Finals in Rochester.
They
will next play Center Moriches of Long Island in the Final Four Semi-Final game
at 10:30 AM on Saturday November 21st.
City Honors
has yet another shot at glory this weekend when their girls volleyball team –
who beat Class V Champion Nazareth last Saturday – will play a round-robin pool
tournament against Loudinville, Tioga, and East Rockaway, also on Saturday
November 21st. There is no word of a wager at this time.
