Fall rules! Big events this weekend include the beginning of the Buffalo Film Festival!

-Young Audiences of Western New York and Albright-Knox Art Gallery present “Journey’s and Journals: Traveling on the Erie Canal,” designed to further studies on the Erie Canal for 4th and 7th graders. FREE.
-The Buffalo Film Festival kicks off at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center with a presentation of lost scenes from Charlie Chaplin’s famous work, City Lights.
Saturday, October 10th
–Anvil tickets go on sale, 12 PM, through tickets.com. Anvil is an American metal band whose career spans 30 years, many albums, and a newly released DVD chronicling their history, and explaining why, despite influencing many rock bands, never reached “the top.” Show takes place at the Town Ballroom, Tuesday, January 12, 2010 7 PM, features a screening of the documentary and a live performance by the band. $18 advance, $22 day of.
-Tickets go on sale for Kiss 98.5‘s Kissmas Bash, 9 AM. The event takes place at HSBC Arena on Sunday, December 6, 5 PM. Ticket prices range from $12.50 to $77.50. Available through www.tickets.com and all tickets.com outlets.
-“88 at the 88’s,” the Dave Brubeck Quartet fronted by jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, will perform at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, 646 Main Street, brought to you by St. Joseph University Parish. 8 PM. $37.50, $57.50, $100 gold circle tickets available.
–BECHS will hold two events:
a:) Take a guided tour through the Buffalo Bills 50th Season Exhibit. Local superfan Greg Tranter, who donated most of the 500 artifacts to the exhibit, will be your guide. Noon.
b:) October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. The Buffalo Jills present a talk by Christina Potempa of the Family Justice Center. Potempa will explain how a relationship is unhealthy and will provide intimate partner violence information. 1:30 PM.
Both events are FREE for members and kids under 6, $2.50 for kids 7-12, $4 for students and seniors, and $6 for adults.
-The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will provide the live soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin’s film “City Lights” at Kleinhans Music Hall. “City Lights” is located on the American Film Institute’s Best Romantic Comedies of all time at #1. 8 PM.
–The Niagara Frontier Orchid Society & The Gardens presents an Orchid Show, featuring hundreds of live orchids and orchid photography. Prizes for the most creative displays and best photographs. $7 Adults, $6 seniors and students $4 kids, kids under 6 and members FREE. 10 AM – 5 PM. Runs through Sunday.
–Soundlab, 110 Pearl Street, presents Dark Party and Mux Mool; electronica at its best. 8 PM. 18+. $10.
Sunday, October 11th
-The Bills take on the Cleveland Browns at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Can they turn the season around? 1 PM.
