Buffalo-Niagara RIVERKEEPER hopes to hand out 161 (updated quantity) free Rain barrels to highly visible local sites (with external gutter systems) in an effort to save our drinking water from overburdened water swells due to storms and runoff.
Not only do the barrels quell an overabundance of flow, but they provide an excellent opportunity to make use of rain water for gardens with the added bonus of free irrigation. Each barrel is made of food-grade, shipping quality plastic that holds 60 gallons of water, and comes with a drain plug, spigot, and mosquito shield. The barrel to the left is an actual representation of the recycled olive barrels Riverkeeper is giving away.
