On November
7th, the identity of some lucky Buffalonians, who will receive a newly-built
home, will be revealed.
ABC’s
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will work with David Homes, WNY
AmeriCorps and local laborers to construct the new, environmentally friendly
home for a Buffalo family, who will be chosen from a pool of 5 candidates. David
Homes was chosen to do the work over a number of builder applicants due to
their commitment to the environment in their previous housing projects.
“I’m pleased
to welcome Extreme Makeover Home Edition and David Homes to the City of
Buffalo,” said Mayor Byron Brown. “In addition to the positive impact
this project is sure to have on the selected family, it will showcase the many
positives that our city has to offer, from friendly and helpful neighbors to a
first-class hospitality industry. I look forward to working on this
project in the upcoming weeks, and I encourage our city residents to also come
out in support of the soon to be chosen family.”
The Buffalo
Niagara Builders Association and the Western New York AmeriCorps will both play
critical roles in coordinating and managing the thousands of local volunteers,
businesses, and trades to make this an exciting experience for a family and the
community. “Having the opportunity to help another deserving family is
awe-inspiring to be a part of,” said Josh Randle, COO of WNY AmeriCorps.
All products
and labor must be donated; David Homes is requesting volunteers to assist with
light duties, skilled tradesman and businesses to provide their time, support
and resources to help ensure the success of this project. Interested
individuals or companies can find out more on how to get involved by visiting the David Homes website (linked above).
