Carl’s Corners

Buffalo Developer Carl Paladino picked up another piece of property this week, and a BR reader wrote us about it with the following note:

Hello, I
just read this story in
Business First about Mr. Paladino’s recent real estate
acquisitions and found something interesting.

He purchased
the former UAW Local 846 union hall on Tonawanda Street with the possible
intention to “raze the building and use the parcel for a retail operation,
perhaps a Rite Aid pharmacy.”

While I know
that these type of chain pharmacies tend to locate near each other and in the
process destroy unique urban street corners, this one seems a little odd since
there already IS a Rite Aid a couple hundred FEET away on Tonawanda St.

Either this
is a typo by Business First, I’m missing something, or Rite Aid is becoming the
new Starbucks. Either way, it’s still an unnecessary and harmful development
for the Tonawanda Street corridor, and I thought this was something which might
be of interest.

Keep up the
good work,

Dave

Maybe not a typo, Dave, but when we contacted Paladino, his answer was a simple, “Nothing on the plate right now.”
