Come see live performances by jazz greats at the Hunt Real Estate Art of Jazz, an annual concert series at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The 2009-2010 series will include evening and afternoon shows.
Come spend “An Evening with Mike Jones” on Saturday, October 24th, at 8 PM with a pre-concert conversation, “Roll ‘Em Pete: The Life and Music of Pete Johnson,” at 7 PM.
The Lou Donaldson Quartet will perform on Saturday, November 21st, at 8 PM. A conversation about “Preserving Buffalo’s Jazz History” will take place at 7 PM.
An afternoon concert will feature jazz ensemble Mostly Other People Do The Killing, on Sunday, January 31st, 2010, at 3 PM. MOPDTK features Bassist Moppa Elliott and Saxophonist Jon Irabagon. A pre-concert film, “Sound” by Dick Fontaine (1967), will be shown at 2 PM.
On Sunday, February 28th, 2010, The Cedar Walton Quartet will perform at 3 PM. The film “Horace Parlan” by Don McGlynn (2002) will be shown at 2 PM.
Come see The Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio on Sunday, March 28th, 2010, at 3 PM. A pre-concert conversation, “The Evolution of Sound in Jazz Guitar,” with special guest Rick Strauss will begin at 2 PM.
On Saturday, May 1st, 2010, Grammy-nominated Cuban musician Juan-Carlos Formell will perform with Johnny’s Dream Club at 8 PM. “The Birth of Jazz: Cuban Influences on Early New Orleans Music” will be discussed at 7 PM.
